According to Redion’s Annual 2026 Holiday Barometer report, conducted by Ipsos, global tensions are reshaping how, and if, people travel at all. Still, appetite for hopping on a plane remains high, with AI starting to play a bigger role in planning ideas.
- Australians are factoring geopolitics into their holiday decisions like never before. Nearly half now consider safety when choosing a destination, and for a growing minority (7%), concerns are strong enough to stop travel altogether.
- Japan continues to lead as the most popular destination for a second year in a row, with the USA (8%), UK (7%) and Indonesia (5%) close behind.
- AI is firmly on the radar, but trust hasn’t caught up. Just 19% of travellers rely on it to plan trips, while most continue to prioritise personal control over automation.AI
- As cost pressures bite, the classic three-week holiday is being replaced by shorter 1–2 week sweet spot for trip length (61%).
