Travelling to the USA: visiting the national parks in complete safety

parc national de Yosemite aux USA
Here are our 10 tips for visiting America's national parks in complete safety:

1 – Take a paper map with you, as you never know whether you’ll always have a signal, and plan your itinerary and the stops you intend to make in advance.

2 – Let someone close to you know about your trip and tell them where you are going, as well as the telephone numbers to use in the event of a problem.

3 – Before entering the national park, reread the regulations on how to behave there: how to dispose of food waste and where to do it, how to behave with your dog if you have taken it with you, etc. If you are the offender, the fine can be substantial and your travel budget could take a hit.

4 – Watch out for animals in the park, keep your distance and don’t feed them.

5 – Always take a full bottle of water with you and drink every 30 minutes when you walk.
6 – Take a small torch and whistle with you just in case.

7 – Remember to take an umbrella or mackintosh in case the weather changes, as it can happen very quickly.

8 – Stick to the signposted paths and recommended trails.

9 – If you’re not comfortable with hiking or excursions in the parks, consider booking a guide or guided tour.

10 – Don’t forget to take out insurance: in the event of a problem, Europ Assistance is there to help you anywhere in the world, 24 hours a day.
